Delightful raku-fired figurines now grace the shelves at Urchin! These reindeer with bead embellishments hail from Port Townsend, Washington and are the creations of Ruth Apter of One Hundred Horses. Ruths animals are solid clay and hand formed not cast. Her work has been featured in a book called Mastering Raku published by Lark Books. Raku is very different than conventionally fired ceramics. In raku one takes the fired piece red hot from the kiln and then quickly places it in a bucket with combustible materials. The smoke and fire interact with the glazes creating crackles and copper flashing depending on the glazes used. The Reindeer are about 2 3/4 inches long and they are packaged in a gift box with an enclosure card about the animal. We have three reindeer styles: rusty/smoke, copper matte and crackle white. Price: $43.75 each.
