Democracy in Taiwan rocks, says this Australian professor, and boy - TopicsExpress

Democracy in Taiwan rocks, says this Australian professor, and boy do I agree. However, I dislike this sentence: in the tiny archipelago that is not a sovereign country... 1) Taiwan has more people than Australia, so its only tiny geographically, and even that can be debated (if Taiwan is tiny, what about Palau?) 2) Of course Taiwan/ROC has all the trademarks of a sovereign country: borders, laws, constitution, elections, customs, military, currency, even diplomatic allies. Just because Australia or othern Western nations dont regognize it, or it is not a member of the UN, does not make it less sovereign. Whoever disputes this should at least provide some reasons why he thinks so. Wondering why Mr. John Keane felt the need to mention this.
