Democratic Alliance press statement by Jacques Smalle DA Limpopo Leader DA welcomes UNILIM suspensions for public violence 26 August 2013 Release: immediate The Democratic Alliance welcomes the swift decision by the University of Limpopo (UNILIM) to suspend six of the students who were involved in a violent disruption of a meeting held by Democratic Alliance Student Organisation on campus last week Wednesday. Amongst those who are suspended are the UNILIM’s SRC President, Lekoko Nkadimeng who was the ring leader of the unruly group which also assaulted DA Youth Leader Mbali Ntuli and its national chairperson Yusuf Cassim. Equipment such as computers and projectors belonging to the DA were destroyed. We have also been informed that Mr. Nkadimeng has already been charged and he appeared at the Mankweng Magistrate Court. The case has been remanded to 20 September 2013. No amount of intimidation will stop any DA structures from contesting upcoming student elections. The action taken by UNILIM however contrasts sharply with that taken by TUT Polokwane campus. Astoundingly, the DASO student who was the victim of a stabbing by a SASCO student has been suspended, but the SASCO student has not. The DA will be keenly following these cases to make sure that these students who are tarnishing the name of student politics receive the sentences they deserve.
