Dennis has been talking about bass fishing, so, on this grey and drizzly morning, we headed to the 17-92 ramp on the St. Johns River. We swung by the old bait shop in Lake Monroe and found an empty field. We had plenty of lures and, instead of wasting time driving around, we decided to use what we had with us. The reports from the other fishermen at the ramp didnt sound good, but Dennis caught a nice little bass right at the mouth of the Wekiva on a white spinner bait. On the way back down river, we explored some side bays and oxbows and I finally caught two bass on the Grand Slam! Wham Bam mullet! We ended a nice day with five bass between 1-1/2 and 2 pounds, no 10 pound trophies, but, not a bad day considering the gloomy report at the ramp. And we both agreed that redfish were a tougher fight and more exciting than the short explosive fight of a bass.
