Denver Hauntings: Before it was called Cheesman Park it was called Mount Prospect Cemetery , a 320 acre plot set aside in 1858 by William Larimer. By 1873, as the city began to grow it turned into as much a decayed state as some of its older residents; prairie dogs had burrowed in and out of graves, tombstones were crumbling and cattle roamed the grounds freely to graze. This all led to a state of deterioration where only the poor and unwanted would become buried in what was then called “City Cemetery”... Nearly 5000 bodies remain at Cheeseman Park, Denver, Colorado to this day... denvercity.co/2013/10/mount-prospect-cemetery-1860-now-cheeseman-park
