Derek has always been a fan favorite, and the picture perfect player that Yankee fans had come to expect. Derek never had any kind of controversy surrounding him. He never had any bad press. And even the umpires loved him, and that says something about a baseball player after 20 years. Derek is the perfect example of a truly enthusiastic individual that is driven to reach his goals, unaffected by negativity that surrounds all of us.
