Des Moines-area peeps, especially journos, ex-journos, and lovers of good writing and hilariously snarky columnists: Besides the Bill Kunerth memorial, 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Memorial Union Great Hall (we outgrew the Cardinal Room), theres a FREE one-woman show about the late Molly Ivins, the great Texas columnist who took on the Bushes and GOP legislators with a great deal of outrage and relish. Its now set for 8 p.m. at the Ames City Hall Auditorium, and were out to drum up a big turnout. The play was co-written by Peggy and Allison Engel. Allison is a 1973 ISU Home Ec. Journalism graduate. Kathleen Turner originated the role. For our gig, the Barbara Chisholm of Austin, Texas will portray Ivins. Molly Ivins died, age 62, in February 2007. This should be a don’t-miss show, introduced by the Engel sisters, who are coming to Ames for this specific purpose.
