Description of the region and community where the project is being implemented and the reason motivating the request for assistance. Kyogo is found in the western Uganda in Kanungu District, Kayonnza Sub-county, Mukono Parish, Mukongoro Cell. The area is dominated by immigrants from D.R. Congo and the local citizens of Uganda. The area also has the population that is over 1,500 persons though at any time of the day the number can increase due to the fact that there is prolonged civil war and insecurity in the neighbouring country D.R.Congo which is forcing people to migrate from their home country to Uganda seeking refuge. Because of the Immigrants as a result of internal conflicts in D R Congo the health and Sanitation of the people in Kyogo Village has been greatly impaired. This is because of inadequate sanitary facilities like latrines and poor disposal of the human waste. This puts the lives of the people in the area at a very big risk because of the constant outbreak of hygienic and health diseases such as Cholera and Dysentery. Due to lack of Latrines and accessible clean water source, the peoples` health and Standards of living are low. People in the area spend most of their resources in hospitals trying to treat themselves of the epidemic. Because of poor hygiene and lack of access to safe and Clean Water source, the entire problem remains unsolved. The major water sources that people depend on are mainly stagnant water from natural ponds that were former water pints for wild animals when it was still a forest. Rain water stagnates in these ponds when it rains and dries off in the dry spell. The location of these ponds in relation to settlement makes them voluntary waste disposal points aided by the run-offs. During the dry spell, people turn to these ponds as the source of water to use in their households despite its dirty situation. Also being stagnant, it acts as breeding grounds for mosquitoes thus increased malaria incidence and water born diseases in the area. It is for this situation that KWSP was formed to help in mobilising resources to respond to the needs of this community in such fragile environment. Constructing rain water harvesting facility that can store water throughout the dry period and putting up improved places of human waste disposal after passing on hygiene and sanitation message can help the situation.
