Descriptive Essay for English Comp I. Enjoy. The battlefield was completely chaotic. The smoke from blast covered everything, making it nearly impossible to see. The vehicle that had exploded 30 seconds ago was completely gone and the primary vehicle that was struck was half mangled on the side of the road. After the smoke clears, I can see bodies scattered about the site, but I am not quite sure who they are. The top gunner gives the all clear and I exit the Humvee. As I exit the vehicle, my pistol that was attached by a lanyard pops out and the cord wraps around my legs. I gather myself and head to the first unknown casualty that I see. As I approach him, all I can smell is the iron from the blood that pools on the highway and the gun power and steel from the remnants of what was once an automobile. The scent of burning flesh seers my nostrils and I try to comfort this poor soul that lay on the ground. He asks if his hand is okay, but I know that it is mostly hamburger meat. The same could be said for his face as well. I lie to him anyways and tell him it is fine. I could barely hear anything. My heart was racing so fast that the swooshing and thumping of my heartbeat pumping blood into my system was deafening. The sound of tracked vehicles and people yelling were so far off into the distance; even though I was right there. Another soldier brings a medical litter and I try to open it. My adrenalin has flooded my body, making it almost impossible to do any tasks involving fine motor skills. I get angry, as the litter will not open properly. We disregard the old litter and grab another. All casualties are on boar a tracked vehicle as all other remaining soldiers enter the other two Humvees. Everyone is barking orders at me and, yet again, I cannot hear anything over the sounds of war. I yell at the top of my voice, “Everyone shut up! There is only one person in charge and I have to hear him only.” Everything go strangely silent for what seems to be forever. The sergeant in charge thanks me in a most calm way, then instructs me to drive back to base.
