For some it is merely a destination for sleep and a room that is enjoyed almost entirely in the dark. For others though, the bedroom is a refuge, a sanctuary and a place to rest, unwind and rejuvenate. One of the best trends to hit the market is the explosion of upholstered headboards available. I love this trend! The bed is usually and naturally the focal point in bedrooms and to add a sumptuous and luxurious upholstered headboard sets the tone for a bedroom that is refined, well-appointed and grown up. There are many furniture manufacturers that have caught on to this trend and now offer a variety of shapes, styles and sizes that can be upholstered in literally hundreds of fabrics. They offer almost any shape that you can think – from a minimalistic straight rectangular design to an opulent curved pattern with decadent tufting and nail head trim. The headboard grounds the room and adds a layer of appeal that is difficult to match with a standard wood headboard. This upholstered piece invites you to lounge and read, maybe watch TV and or just hang out. The headboard adds a new texture, pattern shape and an undeniable softness to any bedroom. It says that this space is important. The key to picking the best headboard for your space is to determine the style that you want. Are you looking to create a space that is romantic and charming or are you leaning more towards a space that is clean, modern and contemporary? Whichever design category you fall in to, you will want to select a shape and finishing details and fabric that match that goal. If you are looking for regality, you will probably want to consider a lavish velvet or silk blend fabric. Alternatively, you may be more in the clean-lined design camp and opt for a linen or tweed blend. The color that you select should be carefully chosen and be a color that you can see yourself living with for some time.
