Desmond Elliot clinches APC ticket.......DAILY TRUST Nollywood a-list actor, director and producer, Desmond Elliot, has clinched the ticket for the Lagos State House of Assembly at the just concluded primaries of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) which took place last Tuesday. Elliot, who defeated his contender, Kabiru Lawal, has continued to receive congratulatory and goodwill messages via various social media platforms, from his colleagues, including Kate Henshaw, another Nollywood star who is also contesting for political office in Cross River State. The proud bearer of the APC ticket is heading to the 2015 general elections and hopes to represent the Surulere constituency at the Lagos State assembly. Unlike him, Kenny Saint Best (KSB), who contested in the primaries to represent Ikeja state constituency, was not as fortunate as she lost the 2015 bid to Mr. Folajimi Mohammed, son of APC’s national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed. Before the election, Elliot was able to pull support from his people when women and youths in Surulere endorsed the star actor. Spokesperson of the group, Olajide Abiodun, attributed the endorsement to the actor’s immense contributions to the constituency: “The Nollywood actor gave scholarships to youths in the constituency to attend Open University. He provided free health insurance for the elderly and empowerment programmes for widows and single mothers among others.” Abiodun added that: “If he could successfully execute these programmes as a private individual, we are sure of better performance from him when he becomes a member of Lagos State House of Assembly in 2015.”
