Despite my previous quote from John Adams about world affairs (which has its place in time), the more balanced biblical admonition is Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep (Romans 12:15). And the purging and persecution of the ancient Christian community in Iraq is truly sad: mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/iraqi-christians-fleeing-persecution-isis-3947382. Perhaps you have seen some people on facebook change their profile picture to the Arabic letter N nuun (standing for Nazarene - Christian) which is being used by the militant Islamic ISIS group to mark the homes of Christians to hand them an ultimatum of either conversion or expulsion/death. That mark has turned into a symbol of Christian solidarity and a badge for standing with these Iraqi Christians who are being persecuted, which you can see here: twitter/clarionproject/status/491505608344870912/photo/1. ISIS is taking every opportunity to rid Iraq of Christians. Some Iraqi Christians are finding temporary refuge among the Kurds. Doors to the homes of Christians have been daubed in red by ISIS militants to speed up the process of mass religious ‘cleansing.’ More than two dozen prayerless churches now lie abandoned as worshippers run for their lives. Those that flee have been afforded protection by the Kurds in the north of Iraq. [first link above] Louis Raphael Sako, the Chaldean Catholic Patriarch and head of Iraq’s largest church, said on Sunday that the Islamic State militants were worse than Mongol leader Genghis Khan and his grandson Hulagu who ransacked medieval Baghdad in 1258. euronews/2014/07/22/how-an-arabic-letter-was-reclaimed-to-support-iraqs-persecuted-christians-n/ Please pray for the Christians of Iraq.
