Detectives in South Manchester are investigating after two assaults happened hours apart on the same street. The first incident happened at around 5.30am this morning, Sunday 20 July 2014, when a police patrol was driving along Greame Street in Moss Side and saw a group of men fighting. By the time officers arrived the majority of the men had left, some in a silver car which drove off at speed. A 30-year-old man was found unconscious on the floor, he was taken to Hope hospital with a suspected head injury. He has been assessed by medics and his injuries are less serious than initially indicated and he is recovering well. A few hours later at 7.40am a 24-year-old man was assaulted by three men on Greame Street, close to the junction of Tydesley Street. He was taken to hospital where he remains and is receiving treatment for a possible bleed on the brain and a fractured nose. A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody for questioning. Detective Inspector Kevin Mariott from South Manchester division, said: “These incidents happened a few hours apart and we are trying to establish if they are linked in anyway. “There was a fight between a large group of men which has left a man recovering in a hospital bed. “While his injuries are not serious, it is no exaggeration to say that the consequences of this assault could have been fatal. “We know there will have been witnesses to this incident and we are keen to hear from anyone with any information about the assault. “A few hours later three men attacked another man yards down the street, although one man has been arrested in connection with this incident, we need to hear from anyone who has information which may lead to the other suspects being identified. “If you were out in the early hours of this morning and saw what happened in either of the incidents, come forward and tell me what you know.” Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
