Detroit. Cairo and East St. Louis in Illinois. There are probably many other town like them that I have not seen. What happened to them? Detroit used to have close to a million people and was the automotive center of the globe. East St. Louis used to be one of the biggest meat packing centers there was. Cairo used to be the largest town in Illinois, back when Chicago was a miserable swamp. How did each of these towns go from a center of commerce and industry to something that looks like the abandoned villages in the Chernobyl restricted zone? Each of these town was filled with productive folks making a lives for themselves who moved on (most likely to Texas). This is what happens when you only make short term decisions based on greed and ignorance.
