Devotion ~ SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT – SATURDAY Psalm 90 (Bold ~ Isaiah 8:1-15) 2 Thessalonians 3:6-18 Luke 22:31-38 Hymn: “It Is Well with My Soul” #428 When peace like a river attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, “It is well, it is well, with my soul.”44 https://youtube/watch?v=vG525x2mUTU Thoughts: My wife and I were traveling across Kansas early in the spring. We had been listening to the radio and horrible storms were in the area we had to cross. We dared to go on. The storm hit us with such intensity and we had to stop in the middle of the highway. The hail beat against the side of our vehicle. The wipers could not keep the rain off the windshield so we could see anything. The wind rocked us and I feared a tornado may hit us. It was terrifying! We had no protection – none but the Lord, Jesus Christ. Oswald Chambers wrote, “The remarkable thing about fearing God is that when you fear God you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear God you fear everything else.” When the angels came to the Shepherds, the Shepherds were afraid. When the future is uncertain, fear is a natural response. And yet, even in fear, there can be a “peace which passes all understanding.” Prayer: Lord God, help us to rightly fear that which can hurt us, and help us to rightly appreciate the Giver of life and blessing! As we confront the terrors of life, give us courage and teach us to lean upon You for a strength which does not fade and for a peace which never leaves us. Our days are uncertain only to us, for You know what the future holds. But, we Lord, know Who holds the future, Jesus Christ the Lord, in Whose name we pray. Amen. Copyright © 2013 by the Rev.
