Devotional - Thursday, 11th September 2014 David’s Secret Weapon ‘David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies – the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied’ 1 Sam. 17:45 The question to you and I this morning is how come David won every battle? What was his secret? It is an open secret really. David gives away that secret in his words and with the pattern of his life. David’s secret weapon is simple; David always secured victory before the battle. [verse 45 to 47]. What were David and Goliath trading? Words. Always answer the enemy back. I can never over emphasize that enough. My grandmother would say that if someone says something to you that is not in line with you, always answer back. I didn’t know she got it from the Scriptures. A lady applied for a job in one of the first generation banks. And a man said to her “you can never get this position, over my dead body”. And the lady warned him to be careful because all she needs to say is ‘Amen!’ The man was furious and threw her out of his office. She said ‘Amen!’ the man was buried, and the lady got the job. It is as simple as that. If they say it will happen over their dead body, then let it be so. I am teaching you dangerous things right? The world is a battlefield and your voice is a trigger in the spirit. David never lost a single battle because David always engaged God. There is a phrase that you will encounter consistently in all of David’s battles. ‘And David enquired of the Lord’. David would not fight a single battle without enquiring of the Lord. ‘David asked the Lord, “Should I go and attack them?” “Yes, go and save Keilah,” the Lord told him’ 1 Sam. 23:2. But David’s men were afraid and the Bible records that David went back to God again and again God replied, “God down to Keilah, for I will help you conquer the Philistines” 1 Sam. 23:4. David consistently went to God for direction before he engaged physically [Read 1 Sam. 30:8; 2 Sam. 2:1; 2 Sam. 5:19 & 23]. If you are honest with yourself and you search your life, you will see that when you are experiencing successive defeat its because you are running ahead of God. Are you going to learn to act like David or are you going to keep running ahead of God? David did not move without God. Prayer: Father, I ask for the wisdom never to engage without enquiring of You. Lord I ask for the wisdom never to move without You, in Jesus Name
