Devotional Reading for: 8/13/2013 A Dog’s Life Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. Luke 12:37 If you have ever owned a dog, you know you will be greeted by your four-legged friend when you open the garage or front door. If someone told you that you would not be greeted in this way, you might respond, “Only if my dog is dead.” The same is true with our Master and His children. When we hear our Master, we know His voice. In faith, we respond. Generally speaking, the only reason why a dog would not greet his master at the door is because the dog is dead. The same is true when our Master returns. There will be those who do not rise to eternal life when the Master comes because they are judged to be forever separated from Him. Having forsaken the relationship that their Savior extended by His death and resurrection, they will be effectively dead forever. It is important for those who are alive in Christ to realize the reality of this. May our witness speak of the life of God’s Son so that the Holy Spirit works in those who are dead in their flesh—pointing to the freedom from sin that comes through Jesus alone. Dear Holy Spirit, as You daily tell us how to hear our Father, encourage us to share this Gospel with those who do not know Jesus. Amen.
