Dichloropheinol indophenol ( DCPIP ) is an indicator which is used to show the presence of vitamin C, in a food sample. DCPIP changes its colour from blue to colourless in the presence of Vitamin C. The followin information shows the results of an experiment on some food stuffs carried out in the classroom. 1. When DCPIP was added to milk in the test tube, the mixture remained blue. 2. When DCPIP indicator was added to Guava Juice in the test tube, the contents stayed blue. 3. When the DCPIP was added to Tamarid Juice ( bwemba ) in the test tube, the mixture turned colourless. QUESTIONS: (a)- What does the results in the above information indicate? (b)- Each of the three food samples was boiled for 10 minutes, and then a few drops of DCPIP were added to these food samples. (1). What results would you expect? (2). Suggest a reason for your answer. (c)- What disease does Vitamin C prevents? (d)- Name a Vitamin which must be present in the body to use Calcium? (e)- Give one Vitamin which is very common in butter. NOTE: THE ANSWER FOR THE ABOVE QUESTIONS, WILL BE POSTED LATER.
