Did You know YouTube is banned in Pakistan for political reasons? Like videos showing bodyguards beating people up. I came across Ali Gul Pir when he toured with a comedy troop called Very Live as part of Center Stage 2012 (a U.S. State Department sponsored program bringing performers from Pakistan, Haiti, and Indonesia; rock paper scissors handles US PR for these tours). Now he has released this rap video about the ban on YouTube in Pakistan. The English lyrics start at 1:38. vimeo/87489847 Some lyrics: We storm the PTA office, bring reporters and cameras Rocking V for Vendetta masks like anonymous hackers Was going viral on the web, I was stomping some rappers But now I have to Hide My Ass with a proxy and password About the project: #KholoBC is a youth initiative against state censorship in Pakistan. Join viral comedian Ali Gul Pir and badass wordsmith Adil Omar in their quest to make some noise, with the help of Talal Qureshi behind the boards and InCahoots Films Aisha Linnea and Shahbaz Shigri behind the camera. This is brought to you by #PakistanForAll and everybody who believes in their right to a free and open internet. This has been picked up with some international press: PRI pri.org/stories/2014-02-28/pakistani-artists-say-their-countrys-youtube-ban-about-politics-not-religion
