Did the Wingham 10K yesterday. Apart from Parkruns, my first public event for almost one year. Over the last 18 months Ive been handicapped by thrombosis in the leg, followed by a pulmonary embolism and osteoarthritis in the knees since November. In November I could hardly walk at times. I chose to ditch the Warfarin [recent research suggest Vitamin K deficiency can cause knee osteoarthritis of the knee, Warfarin blocks Vitamin K], I started taking Glucosamine, worked out generally with weights, paid more attention to stretching and applied Chilli essence cream to my knees before running. I gradually built up my mileage to 8.6, without needing to stop, and finally felt confident to enter a 10K event. Ive done this race more times than I can remember now; as usual, I cycled the round trip of 20 miles, to get there and back. So I did this quite undulating course in East Kent again. Certainly not my best time, 57:45 [course PB 51:34- 2011] 124/186. Also met inbetweenie VRUK member Chris Clark, who did very well. She assures me she will be contacting Peter soon, to renew her membership! This Sunday Im off to Faversham to try another 10K.
