Did you know? For dogs, scent marking can take various forms including scraping at the ground. Typically this action follows elimination, helping to spread the scent molecules up into the air. But this action also acts as a double mark, thanks to the dogs interdigital glands making sure any passing canines know that Fido was here. Unlike cats, dogs do not scrape and scratch the earth to cover up their pee or poo. Remember - wait for your dog to finish scraping at the ground before bending down to pick up that poo, otherwise you might just get a face full of dirt!
