Did you know? Good thing it wasnt an Edsel . . . The Schuylkill Haven, PA, Belvederes were a very strong junior corps from the mid-1960s through the mid-1970s. The way they got their unusual name is a fascinating story. Back in the spring of 1965, a group of kids in Schuylkill Haven met in a cafe to form a drum and bugle corps. It was decided then and there that the corps would indeed be a reality, but the meeting broke up without a name being chosen for the new unit. Parked outside Belles Luncheonette Cafe was a Plymouth Belvedere. Someone suggested that be the name for the corps and the kids loved it. They even went so far as to name their feeder corps after another Plymouth automobile, they Barracuda. (By Brian Tolzmann, DCW staff)
