Did you know that journalist Tim Russert originated the "red states" and "blue states" categories we use today? He covered the 2000 election with a map that turned states voting predominately Republican with red and voting Democrat blue. Did you also know that this was reversing the common forever-long practice of associating left-leaning democrats, socialists, etc with the color red and right-leaning Federalists, Constitutionalists Republicans with blue.
