Did you know that: “...national development begins at the community/constituency level through effective representation by elected officials and the integral involvement of the community members in the decision making process.” Did you also know that: our reps at the national level receive twice what a university profesor receive as salary in one month per day? And that “The duties of every Legislator towards constituency projects include: -conceptualization of four years (as in Nigeria) development plan for his or her respective constituency, keeping in mind that these should bear relationship to national policies and programmes; -developing plans, after consultation with constituents, comprising projects from specified eligible categories to be undertaken on a year to year basis such as development, rehabilitation and maintenance of small scale community development (physical and social infrastructure), economic enablement welfare and emergency needs and social housing; -ensuring proper monitoring and evaluation and reporting of projects being undertaken under the fund in order to ensure transparency, probity and guarantee that the taxpayers money is effectively and efficiently expended.” What it means to the layman is; our Senators and Members of the House of Representatives are supposed to consult the people to know the kind of project needed per time before such projects are executed and they should be executed with the people monitoring such projects to ensure transparency. I belive our major problem is that most of the electorates aint even aware of what constituency projects should look like in the first place and its either our reps aint aware aswell or they are simply capitalising on our ignorance to dupe us! The few elites amongst us are fed with shut-up-your-mouth portions and they tend to to pay blind-ears Although constituency project has become a tool of decentralized development and increasingly popular vehicle for political development that sought to build relationships between local and central stakeholders, and central stakeholders, and between stakeholders in government institutions and those in civil society, there is a need to put in place transparency, accountability and oversight mechanisms in order to ensure that value for money is achieved in implementation of projects. Effective constituency project must work towards infrastructural development, healthcare and education provisions (modern colleges, school laboratories and classrooms, libraries and workshops), and poverty reduction through creation of self-sustained and skill acquisition programmes for the people at grassroots. Others included reduction of illiteracy levels by establishing bursary kitty for the bright but poorer students, environmental conservation projects etc. based on the above, should any progresive individual or group of individuals be speaking for or on behalf of these glutoneus political rapists?
