Dig deep,Extension in Malawi started in 1907.Malawi was a British colony and pre-independence period.The extension system geared at estate farmers.Later the concept of Master farmers was incorporated into the mainstream of extension activies.These Master farmers who were better off and innovatative,received government support in terms of inputs and services.An Agricultural Cooperative Programme was instituted in 1948 in order to enhance increased agricultural production.During this period the predominant extension approach involved individual contacts and coercion.Violators of instructions were punished by fines or imprisonment.Thus why we were successsful interms of food security.Today people can temper with Admarc,food reserves,and sudsidy progmmes anyhow.Do we have ITs by then,cashgate loop holes is because of the same ITs.It take a bit of hard work and reinforce that same punishments.Then people will start to shit in there attiude and behaviours the way it was during the British colony and pre-independence period.
