Dirty Dining: Evidence of rats and roaches temporarily closes Sonnys BBQ for second time in a year Wendy Ryan 10:50 PM, Jan 21, 2015 11:15 PM, Jan 21, 2015 Dirty Dining: Evidence of rats and roaches temporarily closes Sonnys BBQ for second time in a year Sonnys BBQ, known for serving slow-smoked, real southern barbecue, had some unwanted guests crawling around that smoker recently. The state stopped Sonnys at 10010 Adamo Drive in Brandon from serving food for over an hour and a half on Jan. 15 after finding live roaches and evidence of rodents. Inspectors discovered 29 live roaches by the smoker next to the walk-in cooler and across from the prep sink. Rodent droppings were also found under dry storage shelving. But this isnt the first time this Sonnys location has been warned by the state. On April 9 of last year, inspectors closed Sonnys doors for 18 hours after seeing live roaches near the drive-thru window. And according to the inspection report, rodent activity was extensive with over 200 rodent droppings near the fire pit, storage area, cutting board, washing machine, bar area, bathroom and back door. Inspectors also noticed bags of powder sugar with chew marks from rodents and issued a stop sale on them as a result. Last week inspectors found other food items at dangerous temperatures that could make customers sick. Beans, pasta salad, sour cream, butter and coleslaw were all above the 41 degrees, the minimum cold temperature for food in the refrigerator. Other high priority violations include employees not washing their hands and cross contamination violations with raw turkey stored over cooked macaroni and cheese and raw chicken stored over cooked hot dogs. Twenty-four violations were documented in January, which also included black/green mold in the ice machine, a repeat violation and accumulation of old debris and grease on hood filters, walls, baseboards, cabinets and other kitchen equipment.
