Dirty Girls...the race report. It always seems like a good idea at the time and in this case it was....mostly. The day was perfect weather wise which was a relief as we would be running for 12 hours with 11 of them being in the dark. With an 8 pm start eating was an art going through the dinner hour, not eating too much but not starting hungry. Our aid station had enough food to feed a small army, ultimately we had more than we needed. The trail was awesome and super fun. Right out of the gates we were climbing, Rick said his Garmin had 7 loops at 16,000 ft of climbing. It was 50% single track, wide with sandy surface and not too many roots or rocks, just LOTS of climbing. As an 8k loop we started with a goal of 10 loops or 80k but once we had completed 2 loops with the dark and the climbing we adjusted to our second goal of 8 loops or 64k. Turns out only 6 runners hit the 10 loop mark. Mostly uneventful it was a silent run with the odd conversation interjected. We were all concentrating on our foot placement, our hydration and nutrition. Volunteers were fantastic and I would highly recommend this event if you ever want to try your hand at an ultra. End result: Lucie 68k, Sandy, Stephanie, Rachel 64k, Diane and Rick 56k. No injuries, just a few blisters.
