Discipleship Series; 15 September, 2013 (NKJV) Exodus 20:8, "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. We need to keep in mind that some portions of the Old Testament are ‘shadows’ of the New Testament and allegories of some sort – this Decalogue may fall into such category. The Old Testament Sabbath started sunset of Friday through till sunset of Saturday, but that is now replaced by what many call the ‘Christian Sabbath’ – Sunday alone. Like most (if not all of) God’s laws and commandments, this Decalogue is for our benefit and to honour God; Mark 2:27, And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. The purpose of the Sabbath is for physical rest and spiritual rejuvenation. The day of the week set aside for this does not really matter; Roman 14:5, One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike… Christians in Islamic nations use Fridays as their Sabbath days, because every other day is a workday! Numbers 20:9 – 10, Six days you shall labour and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work. Beloved, be it Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday that is convenient (based on your schedule), you need to observe and honour the Lord with your Sabbath day; a day in which you will do no work; take a rest and replenish yourself spiritually. Even a mechanical gadget breaks down and gets spoilt when the ‘rest’ principle is not applied. When we do not take time to replenish our spiritual vigour – we get depleted and begin working and walking in our strength and knowledge, which is dangerous and misleading Mark 6:31, And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. Prayer: My God! Teach and help me keep and honour Your Sabbath, in Jesus’ name. Visit this link to see past articles; groups.yahoo/group/discipleshipseries/
