Disclaimer: Im not making light of the earthquake in Chile. It always amuses me when the local news stations defer to the meteorologists to report about earthquakes. Wouldnt that be a seismologists job and then a geologist next? Meteorologists are as far away from the ground in their field of expertise as they could be. Im not a statistician, but while Im on the topic of stepping out of a role and pretending to know about something else, I thought it would be appropriate. Maybe there is a correlation between the cloud formations and pressure systems on seismic activity. But everyone with any education knows correlation does not imply causation. Maybe we should apply the Granger causality test. Oh wait, I know! Its Global Warming! Wait no. Thats not real. Couldnt be after the winter we just experienced. I know a good one- Its EL NINO!! What ever happened to El Nino anyway? BRING BACK EL NINO! It would actually make more sense to pick anyone else on the news team to report about an earthquake. Happy hump day everyone!
