Discover Cavan Burren Park on 21st June. To celebrate the opening of the exciting new visitor centre at Cavan Burren Park outside Blacklion in West Cavan, Cavan County Council, Cóillte and Border Uplands will host a ‘Discover Burren’ day on the summer solstice 21st June. A new tourist attraction in West Cavan consists of interpretative centre and 5 new trails. At the moment, the site has many megalithic tombs, hut sites, rock art, glacial erratics and pre-bog walls which survive from pre-historic times with some more ancient than the pyramids. The Burren occupies an area of approximately 124ha on the slopes of Cuilcagh Mountain and affords stunning views of Cuilcagh, West Cavan and the greater Global Geopark. This new development will interpret the inspiring and intriguing human history of Cavan Burren Park and has the potential to become a flagship visitor attraction in the country. This will give local people an opportunity to explore the new centre and trails, a one-day festival will take place on June 21st from 1pm to 6pm approximately. Visitors can expect music, song, dance, guided walks, nature trails, food, re-enactments and many surprises.
