Dispatches – Tue. Oct. 22, 2013 – Recommended Tonight TCM, TNT & SCETV Hello Folks, Tonight’s comprehensive and eclectic recommendation schedule for television viewing dictates Self Motivated Curiosity Based Independent Research & Learning for Films Students of all aspiring professional persuasions, Die Hard Cinema Aficionados and devotees of Hitchcock, the British New Wave films and Documentaries of all kinds. This being the case, I’ll dispense with my customary Commentary section except for a few remarks on the two TCM narrative selections noted below. Interested parties might go on line to read up on the two TCM listings, the films’ directors and related production notes. For the documentary listings on TNT and SCETV (PBS), seek out detailed and background information on these postings according to subject preferences and personal interests. They are all good films to see. The schedule tonight presents some hard choices to make for many of you, I’m sure. They will be for me. Lots of black coffee might be in store for dedicated viewers tomorrow morning. On TCM 6:15 PM – The Lady Vanishes 1938 -- 97 min. Dir: Alfred Hitchcock DP: Jack E. Cox Described as a “comic thriller,” this is one of the last films the Master of Suspense made in the UK before moving to Hollywood and it is considered one of his best of the pictures he made in England. This film convinced David O. Selznick, one of the most influential American producers ever, that Hitchcock was, indeed, a notable film director. Plot Teaser - While traveling in continental Europe, a rich young playgirl realizes that an elderly lady seems to have disappeared from the train. 8:00 PM - Saturday Night Sunday Morning - 89 min. Dir: Karel Reisz DP: Freddie Francis One of the most influential and standard setting films of the post WWII British New Wave era. And Chech-born British filmmaker Reisz was one of the pioneering directors of this new realist “strain” in British Cinema of the 1950s and 60’s. Cinematographer Freddie Francis, one of the great cameramen, is most definitely worthy of extensive research, and study and viewing of his filmography. Plot Teaser - A rebellious, hard-living factory worker juggles relationships with two women, one of whom is married to another man but pregnant with his child. This picture will be of considerable interest to Film Students studying Documentary production due to direction and its style of photography. --- --- On TNT 10:00–11:00 PM Original Series – Cold Justice Episode: Blind Love Encore Airing: 12:00-01:00 AM (Note: This is the last episode of this interesting documentary series from Executive Producer Dick Wolf of Law & Order fame.)
