Disqualification process gets rolling IMPHAL, Aug 11: Acting on applications which sought disqualification of some MLAs, the Manipur Legislative Assembly has served notices to four MLAs. The notices were served by the Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat under tri- bunals related to the 10th Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Andro A/C MLA Th Shyamkumar filed applications to the Assembly Spea- ker in the capacity of the All Indian Trinamool Congress, Manipur Unit president seeking disqualification of five MLAs. The MLAs targeted by Shyamkumar are Th Joykisan (Thangmeiband A/C), Th Bi-shwajit (Thongju A/C), K Sarat (Konthoujam A/C), O Lukhoi (Wangoi A/C) and late M Kunjo (Hiyanglam A/C). However, application pertaining to late Kunjo was withdrawn by Shyamkumar sometime back. The remaining four MLAs were served notices summoning them to the office of the Speaker on August 21. Apart from the four MLAs, MLA Shyamkumar has also been directed to present himself at the office of the Speaker on the particular day or depute an authorised Advocate. Th Shyamkumar filed a series of applications to the Speaker seeking initiation of disqualification procedure against some MLAs elected on AITC tickets. He accused the MLAs of defying the 10th Schedule of Indian Constitution by splitting the parent party or forming new party. One MLA, on condition of anonymity, said that the particular MLAs were listed as AITC MLAs in the gazette notification of election results, and not as Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress. No political party called Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress has been registered with Election Commission of India.
