Distractions are DREAMS being destroyed in slow motion. ~ Bishop Dale C. Bronner Seems many have forgotten something and are distracted so, here is a little reminder of things that make him a threat to the Members Only Club or Network Owners as well as highlight the fact that he IS a trailblazer of whom there would be no Eddie Murphy, Tyler Perry, Aisha Tyler and a host of others... all who are sitting by and watch him get crucified: Bill Cosby is well known for his views on the fact that many African American teenagers put higher priorities on sports, fashion, and “acting hard” than on education, self-respect, and self-improvement, and has made a plea for families to educate their children on the many different aspects of American culture. He has made many speeches campaigning for this to happen. In 1997, his son was shot dead in cold blood, and the family established the Hello Friend/Ennis William Cosby Foundation to provide funds for education of disadvantaged youths. DANIELS Published: November 8, 1988 Bill Cosby and his wife, Camille, have donated $20 million to Spelman College, the elite black womens college in Atlanta. The gift is the largest single contribution ever made to a black college and one of the largest donations in recent years to any school. The gift was announced by Johnetta B. Cole, Spelmans new president, at a dinner Friday that began a three-day celebration of her inauguration. Mrs. Cosby and I have been blessed because I found a vein of gold in the side of a mountain, Mr. Cosby said to an amazed, applauding audience of 2,000 at the black-tie dinner off campus in Atlanta. Referring to Dr. Cole, he added, Mrs. Cosby and I wanted this woman to know how much we love this school. ________________________ Bill Cosby, philanthropist His quiet contributions help two young women find success. By Acel Moore POSTED: April 13, 2003 For more than two hours last Tuesday, I listened to a man in a third-floor office on Temple Universitys main campus talk about his larger family. The man had a three-day stubble and sported dark glasses and a red Temple sweater. He was Bill Cosby, internationally known entertainer, actor, comedian - and a Philadelphia native who unashamedly promotes his hometown and alma mater. Included in his audience were twin sisters Delana Wardlaw and Elana Miles-McDonald, 28, physicians and Temple alumni who were the topic of my March 30 column (Success is a testament to them, but also to their parents roles). The twins were former recipients of the Camille and Bill Cosby Scholarship in Science, given to Temple juniors and seniors. Both were summa cum laude graduates in biology. ___________________________________ Charlie Chaplin. Groucho Marx. Richard Pryor. Over the past century, few entertainers have achieved the legendary status of William H. Cosby Jr. His successes span five decades and virtually all media, remarkable accomplishments for a kid who emerged from humble beginnings in a Philly project. In the 1960s, his stand-up act was a coast-to-coast sensation, spawning a string of hilarious, best-selling comedy albums, which went on to win eight Gold Records, five Platinum records and five Grammy Awards. His role on TV’s I Spy made him the first African-American to co-star in a dramatic series, breaking television’s racial barrier and winning three Emmy Awards. In the 1980s, he again rocked the television world with the The Cosby Show, a gentle, whimsical and hugely successful series that single-handedly revived the family sitcom (and rescued NBC). With hit movies like Uptown Saturday Night and best-selling books like Fatherhood, Bill Cosby is quite simply a national treasure with the unique ability to touch people’s hearts.
