Divide and conquer is the oldest tactic in the book: before condemning the Lancaster University Occupation or the SU remember that students havent had any compromises out of University House for the past four years: nothing meaningful anyway - it took two years to get them to employ two extra counsellors, despite a six week waiting list for referrals; they increase fees for postgrads and international students to bring us in line with imagined competitors - but then wont pay postgraduate tutors a decent - or in some cases any - wage; and rent, so there will now be nowhere on campus that costs less than £100 a week to live in; they are decimating the colleges, vetoing principle appointments and moving towards centralisation; and they insist on unrealistic admissions requirements, and then leave clearing students in the shit when they dont meet their targets. I know who Im condemning in University House, and its not the lot fighting for a fairer future.
