Do You Know About Left Lane Driving? If a police car followed me around today I could have pointed out enough slow left lane drivers (you know, they have to make a left turn 6 miles down the road!) to balance several municipal budgets! August 23, 2013 at 9:35am Did you know that among the new laws Governor Rick Scott signed that went into effect on July 1st of this year is one that has to do with people driving slow in the left lane of traffic? Under the new law a person driving 10 miles per hour under the posted speed limit on a roadway that has two or more lanes going in the same direction, has to move out of the left lane and into the right so that faster vehicles can pass. If you don’t, you could get a ticket for a moving violation. That, of course, applies to I-75, but it would also apply to roads like US 41, Veterans Blvd. and SR 776. Although the new law went into effect in July, F.S.S. 316.083 (2) has been on the books for some time. It says that “Except when overtaking and passing on the right is permitted, the driver of an overtaken vehicle shall give way to the right in favor of the overtaking vehicle, on audible signal or upon the visible blinking of the headlamps of the overtaking vehicle if such overtaking is being attempted at nighttime, and shall not increase the speed of his or her vehicle until completely passed by the overtaking vehicle.” Please be courteous to other drivers and move over.
