Do you get cold sores? well cold sores on the lips or in the mouth are caused by the Herpes Simplex virus, which is the same virus that gives you genital herpes--exception: Normally Herpes Simplex Virus has two types, type I and type II. The cold sore type is usually I and genital type is usually II ---but you can exchange mix and match and transfer--SOOO... that cold sore that you now have on your lip you can transfer to your partner and that does not limit transfer to their mouth and lips alone (same goes for genital herpes transfer to your mouth)! Point is- abstain from kissing ANYTHING while you have sores in, around or on your mouth and lips (or otherwise anywhere else)!
