Do you know why we love Super Monster Xena the Warrior Puppy & her humans? Meet their new foster pup LAYLA. Layla was rescued by Friends of DeKalb Animals (FODA), the organization that rescued Xena. From FODA on 10/8: Our founders saw a post on Facebook asking for help with a puppy. She had severe head trauma (speculating from abuse) including a shattered jaw and had been thrown in a dumpster like trash while she was still alive. Her infection was severe & her badly broken jaw required a specialist. It is all more than the local vet could provide for her. That night we couldnt get her off our minds & thanks to many people coming together, including the amazing FODA foster team members driving over 4 hours to bring her to Atlanta - this girl is now a FODA pup and is safe at Georgia Veterinary Specialists for hospitalization and the best 24/7 care! After x-rays & the orthopedic team consulting on her case, the medical team decided surgery could do more harm than good. Layla is still a young, growing pup & plating several areas on her jaw that are broken while she grows could cause major issues. Instead, they feel it will heal just as well (or better) if they set it & restrict movement using a tape muzzle. Basically she will have to keep this on for approximately a month while her jaw heals. She will eat food of a soupy consistency & be kept on pain meds & antibiotics. And Xenas mom stepped up to foster her. This is a video of her when she just laid down and cried - youtu.be/CYc3kNCp6jE.
