Do you know your numbers? When we talk about your “Heart Health” there are some numbers you should know. February is American Heart Month and we hope you take advantage of some free opportunities this month to get to know your numbers. The Fairfield Health Department will be holding blood pressure and BMI screenings at the Fairfield Public Library on Tuesday, February 25 from 4-7 PM and on Thursday, February 27 from 9 am- 12PM. There are other locations in Fairfield where you can go to start learning your numbers. For these and additional screening locations go to gethealthyct.org/know-your-numbers/ What numbers should you know? The basic numbers you should know are your blood pressure, blood glucose level, total cholesterol, body mass index and waist size. Here are the recommended levels: Blood Pressure: less than 120/80 Blood Glucose (fasting): less than 100 Total Cholesterol: less than 200 Body Mass Index: between 18.5 and 25 Waist Circumference (at belly button) Women - less than 35”; Men – less than 40” If your numbers are not where they should be, you can talk to your doctor about what steps you can take to start to improve them.
