Do you not understand what is going on in Indiana right now? Youve heard allot of talk about gay marriage, marriage equality, civil unions, health benefits and economic impact. Now as important as all these things are and as much as a supporter of equality as I am- It would be irresponsible of me not to point out the broader implications of this legislation. Implications which transcend these issues. There is more at stake here. Think about what is going on. House Republicans (despite many Republicans being against this mind you) are trying to add a amendment to the states constitution that would restrict rights to only a select group of individuals. Thats all you really need to know to be against this if you understand what that actually means. Your not supposed to add anything to a constitution that takes away rights, only that which protects rights, esp. those of minorities so that the democratic process doesnt result in tyranny. Thats whats going on here and if this legislation goes through the Supreme Court will eventually over-turn it. How many lives will be affected by then? What will be the monetary and psychological cost to the state? Lets back, up-though because thats not the direct point I wanted to make. If rights-restricting legislation is put into the state constitution it creates a precedent for further addition while making the legal rights we do currently have as defined in said constitution worthless. The Constitution loses its protection from such abuse. If this is done for religious reasons that essentially means that Indiana would be a theocracy. Think about it, and when you do reflect on this poem (see bottom of post) because what the people pushing for this legislation dont seem to understand is that they breaking those seven seals they worry so much about. Trying to gain power over others they are getting ready to strike down their own protection under the law. Next think you know we will be voting on an amendment that says Women cant vote. If this happens there is nothing to stop that from happening- except the U.S. Constitution, it will be overturned eventually unless that constitution is compromised to. Then we might as well pray to the U.N. We as a people need to demand due process because we are watching it fail before our very eyes.
