Do you receive social security, and if so, do you need it? Does your mother or father or your grandparents need social security in order to live? Then, if for no other reason than this, do NOT vote republican. Multiple republican politicians have stated, loudly and clearly, to the press, that they intend to dismantle social security if they gain sufficient power. Understand that social security is not an entitlement. Its money that working people have PAID, out of their paychecks, for forty or fifty years, into social security--their retirement plan. It is not a part of the general tax monies and cannot be used for discretionary spending. Republicans would like to scare you into believing that (a) it will run out soon anyway (false) or (b) that the young are paying for the old (also false), because it would serve them well if they could take all that money and spend it on more wars, and more subsidies and tax breaks for enormous corporations. Do the research from CREDIBLE sources on social security, and understand that without it, the millions of elderly and disabled who live solely on their social security stipend, will have no way to live. Read, research and understand so that your vote will not immeasurably injure older people that you love.
