Does anybody know what this animal sound is? We have been hearing it on and off for a few months now. Always at night and often screams out several times over a 5 to 10 minute period before it disappears. The back of our house is next to a railroad track, where the sound always comes from, and there are lots of trees on either side, especially on our property. If it wasn’t for our 6 foot fence I probably wouldn’t even let our dogs out at night. And interestingly enough, when I hear it and go out to get the dogs, they’re always back in the yard and take their time to come up to the deck. And when they finally come out of the darkness to the deck they seem to be acting normal. They have never barked when the noise comes around, and do not appear to be scared, like I always am. It’s so loud it sounds like it is coming from inside the fence instead outside. At first I thought it might be a Bobcat, but I used to hear Bobcats from my camping days and I seem to remember them having a higher pitch. This sounds like a woman being gutted with a big knief! Last night it returned and by the time I got the dogs in and went for my video camera I only managed to catch the last scream. But I finally got it. In this 17 second video I loop it 3 times. Any ideas?
