Does anyone else have difficulty throwing away those little navy - TopicsExpress

Does anyone else have difficulty throwing away those little navy blue tins filled with Danish Butter cookies that you purchase near the holidays each year? The total cost is 2 to 4 $ per tin.The cookies are super for dunking into a hot cup of tea of an evening and the coconut after taste and sanding sugar crunch disguise them as a special occasion cookie perfect for offering to an unexpected guest. Yes, I actually enjoy 3 or 4 of these little cookies with tea, I used to receive a few tins each holiday season ad I was always glad to have them on hand/ On occasion, i have purchased the tins myself and after adding some appropriate to the occasion colors to butter creme icing along with a few sprinkles I have actually found them to be somewhat appropriate and festive party nibbles, But, I cannot bring myself to toss away the navy blue and gold tins once the cookies have been consumed . They are lovely and sturdy little tins and Ive used them for, thread spool tins or button boxes, containers for broken crayons, cookie cutter cans, a place to store love letters or recipes or a weekly deposit to a vacation fund. I have hidden money inside of them, given them to kids to store shell or marble or baseball cards in, made one into a manicure set, a medicine chest and a nail polish keeper. Hair rollers or bobby pins worked well in them, doll clothes are safe in them, screws or nails are safe in them....And dont even get me started on the usefullness of those popcorn tins packed with 3 flavors of rubber popcorn that you get as a family gift from some sweet relative who couldnt afford much but dearly wanted to buy your family some little thing! Seems like you always get those from the sweetest little dears! Those tins are fantastic to store breakable ornaments or bulk rice or beans,,,,etc.! Anyway...i ate the last cookie out of the tin tonight and almost had myself talked into dumping the tin into the trash but I just couldnt do it! I have absolutely nothing to put into it but I feel as if I will be wasting a treasure if I toss it! Well heck...at least I dont keep cool whip and margarine bowls!!I give those to the cool whip / margarine bowl whacko!! Do any of you have any fresh ideas for these? I wish that I would have filled one up with little photos, deep thoughts, love notes, prayers, songs etc. every year for the grandkids. They could have stumbled across them after I was gone and had some memories to share. Maybe its not too late to start one of those now, Ill have to grab another tin of butter cookies so that I can make one memory box for each of them! Now....where will i stack these up at until I get to them???? and what is in all of those old ones stacked over there on the shelf in the basement? What do you do with yours?
