Does anyone here remember David T. Chastain? He fronted his own bands, Chastain, and CJSS, as well as his own solo career. He has had a very prolific career, always doing things his own way. I think that, although he shredded with the best, he was one of the most tasteful players from the era. Here is a performance from 1988 where he does his share of shredding (it was after all an instructional video made for guitar players). The interesting thing is that for that time (1988) this is what was considered Prog Metal. The song is Spontaneous Combustion from the Instrumental Variations album. I think that if you delve into David T. Chastains extensive catalog (over 50 albums across different genres), you will find him to be a very tasteful, #Prog player.
