Since 2012, the base of the GOP has been told through the biased autopsy report, through the efforts of State party leadership, all the way down to district heads, that we are going to be settling in for a modern interpretation of Republicanism, and a new kind of conservatism. We have been told that we need to have a more open approach to immigration reform, and a less stringent approach to our traditional social values. We have been told in no uncertain terms that our involvement in the Republican party has one purpose; to get liberal Republicans elected. None of this is new, it’s just been reiterated and repackaged and is transparently tedious in the view of the conservative base. In an environment where the people who keep losing continue to tell us how to win, the base is really, frankly, over it. Some have expressed publicly that they will no longer vote for the lesser of two evils, and some have said that once again, they will vote Republican in the hopes that once they take both the House and Senate, that they will then have the power needed to stop the President from implementing his destructive policies. They’ll be a full one-third then, don’t you know, but then, they’ll only be one-third. What it all comes down to, is that we have a Republican party we cannot stand, not because they are the establishment and we aren’t, but because they will not listen to their base. There is no coalition building, there is only, “shut up and sit down,” to borrow a popular phrase. They will not stop and recalculate their approach, simply because they believe the base is a small group of people, and they are in charge because they have control of the money. jenkuznicki/2014/11/voter-malaise/
