Does underdevelopment, poverty or lack of workable institutions as in the case of Ghana has anything to do with the fact that we do not have a national language? Will keeping and developing a national local language for Ghana help improve bad governance, lack of innovation, food insecurity, fallen educational standards, etc. The world is moving faster. Keeping to what will bring you economic and developmental parity with the rest of the world is far important than any home grown policy that will prevent such development should not be encouraged. Yes our children must be able to speak the local languages but what if speaking these languages does not translate into a developed Ghana where they can have the basic necessities in life. What will be the use of rattling any local language and not be able to participate in a global world? I think the challenges confronting us today as a nation is not because we don’t have a national language. Our children need a workable nation and not just a nation that has its own language.
