Doing Business with Hotels in Modern America I called a Hotel - TopicsExpress

Doing Business with Hotels in Modern America I called a Hotel in Phoenix to book a room, negotiated a better price, and after giving the agent my credit card number, I asked the agent to confirm that there was no parking charge. She said I was correct, that the parking was included with the service charge, the one that had not ever been mentioned, and clearly would not have ever been mentioned, had I ended the phone call before asking the question about parking. When I got testy, and insisted that this failure to disclose the real cost compelled them to offer it to me at the agreed upon price, the agent said let me see what I can do, and put me on hold. The Manager came on the line, apologizing that they could nit honor my request, at which time I made him aware how I has been misled, adding that I was ready to publish the incident on yelp, and that I was even considering reporting the incident to the District Attorney. Magically, while indicating he had not been aware of the details of the conversation as I shared it, he agreed to waive the service fee, and to confirm the reservation, and that detail in writing. That service fee is often called a resort fee. Beware, folks, and dont ever be afraid to speak up and play hardball!
