Doing what I do for a living, I seldom look forward to actually taking in the show.... People always ask me - did you get to meet so and so? They are always surprised when I say....I dont usually interact with artists. Its not that I cant or dont have the opportunity, or even that the artists arent receptive. I look at it like this, being on the Road- makes every venue that you spend 10-16hrs a day in, kind of like your home. I treat backstage like Im in their living room. My crew and I give the tour as much privacy as possible - while being unnoticed yet available in their space. If you are good at this job, the show days should be easy. All of my work should be done before they enter the building. Sure, there are definitely things to handle, a lot actually. However, if you advance well, things should be smooth sailing and the Artist and tour should be Happy - youll have a great day. Dont get me wrong some people are never happy, all assholes and ego - nothing and I MEAN NOTHING you do or dont do will get a smile or a thank you or any civil interaction at all. TONIGHT IS NOT ONE OF THOSE NIGHTS...... Im spending the day with the hard working artists and great crew for the Tedeschi Trucks Band. I listened to rehearsal over the comm in my office yesterday.....WOW just WOW! Im absolutely making sure I get to enjoy this show! Hoping for a sellout, then my work will be done before doors! Get your tickets this morning....
