Dolls are one of my favorite toys for children. Every child, regardless of gender and developmental skill, should have a baby doll. Dolls encourage your child to sequence steps (get baby, rock baby, put baby on the bed, etc.). Because you have a child, you probably have all of the props. Go to the storage containers and get a bottle, a baby blanket, a baby brush, and a diaper (this might be one you need to ask a friend with a baby for). With a baby doll, your child can sing to the baby, rock the baby to sleep, talk to the baby, and love on the baby. Baby dolls also encourage your child to engage in dialogue with you (going back and forth as you talk about the baby). As your child plays with the baby, make statements about what they are doing, rather than asking questions. So, you might say, “Oh, you are rocking the baby.
