Don Henley: You cant rewrite the lyrics to somebody elses songs and record it and put it on the Internet. Im sorry, but it wasnt an improvement. We were not impressed. He needs to come up with his own ideas and stop stealing stuff from already established works. Im not even a huge Eagles fan, but I am 100% on side with Don Henley on this. Check out Frank Oceans original song (Hotel California with the lyrics changed) - this is not a sample, this is not a remix, this is not creativity; this is a cover, disguised as an original. The song is a staple of American radio and has been for decades, but not with teens, who will listen to chart radio and may never have been exposed to anthems from the 70s and 80s; a quick scroll down the Youtube comments and I see this is my fave Frank Ocean song and I love tha ending!! (referring of course to arguably the most famous guitar solo of all time.) I feel the same about artists who claim to be singer-songwriters and their new song is a hit chorus lifted from a classic 80s pop song. Lazy.
