Dont normally rant...but this time......Wakefield Wakefield ........all the focus is on that sh*t city - headed by Mr Box. My blood just boilt with the latest announcement. Take away our swimming pool, depriving youngsters an essential life skill, close down childrens centres in the South East (apparantly our area is deprived - but doesnt require support) offer no help in MPAG applying for external funding for a new pool (even though MPAG offered in our own time). In stark contrast WMDC find staff to pay, allow time to submit a huge heritage bid and get external funding for yet another useless timepiece in the Cities relentless quest to get out of the shadows of Leedss success and establish itself as a major tourist attraction. Read the words carefully - not Wakefield area - Wakefield. The City will always take precedent in the eyes of Box, tangible new assets are his desired legacy, whilst salami slicing front line services under the pretense our budgets are squeezed. Remember their favourite line is an equal spread of Austerity measures across the district. Walk around Wakefield, then our areas? Spot the difference? Every new brick laid through his City Centre tourism grand masterplan, is another nail in the coffin of a community service helping the vulnerable in society. What / who is next? Of course when the Westminster MPs visit they will be shown around a gleaming Wakefield city centre - paraded around with a smug Mr Box admiring the glistening fountains in the Bull ring and his £7 million market hall (which is due to demolished) but hey it looks good???. Sun Lane Pool built at the height of the global economic crisis in Wakefield - for Wakefield, when a baseline crack at Minsthorpe Pool was deemed economically unviable. Well its certainly health and socially viable. Look what we have done - the self proclaimed regeneration guru says. Well done says the MP...a moment passes where they both nod in admiration, massaging each others egos - a quality of all those in power. Meanwhile 10 miles South East of the district lies a different story.....set of crooks the lot of them!
